Fourth Annual 5Point Film Festival Set To Inspire, Engage and Entertain
April 28 - May 1, 2011 in Carbondale, Colorado
Film screenings, live performances, guest speakers and special opportunities
to celebrate the adventure in all of us!
February 24, 2011 (Carbondale, Colo.) – The fourth annual 5Point Film Festival will take place April 28 – May 1, 2011 in Carbondale, Colorado, featuring a five-star roster of adventure films, special guests and unprecedented live performances to inspire adventure in all of us. All events will take place at the Carbondale Recreation Center and other local hot spots.
2011 Sneak Peek
Confirmed special guest Jeremy Collins (who dazzled 2010 5Point audiences with his feature film, Border Country) will premiere a first-ever live performance art piece entitled “The Wolf and the Medallion” on Saturday, April 29, 2011. The piece features live music, live art (created on-stage), and the film premiere of The Wolf and the Medallion complete with what he calls “atmospheric surprises.” This multifaceted performance boasts something for all senses. The original story is inspired by Collins’ personal climbing adventure to the border of China and Mongolia, where rumors of a virgin canyon of granite led to a deeply affecting experience. After standing on the summit of this first ascent, Jeremy wrote a letter to his son back in the States, which became the script of the film. The performance is a journey of fatherhood, brotherhood and what it means to lead a life of adventure.
Additional special guests include the Baffin Babes, a Scandinavian quartet, presenting their film, 80 Days in the Arctic. In March 2009, four young Scandinavian women set out on an epic journey traveling 800 miles across Baffin Island in Canada's northland. Pulling sleds weighing up to 250 lbs., the Baffin Babes spent 80 days on skis by day, while sleeping in a tent at 40° F below by night—with polar bears as their nearest neighbors. The extraordinary expedition was more a meeting with nature than a point to prove for the young explorers. 5Point is honored to share the vibrant spirit and amazing story of the Baffin Babes with this year's festival audience.
The 2011 5Point Film Festival program will also include a number of special releases and premieres of adventure and mountain culture films from around the world. The complete festival program will be announced in early April at www.5pointfilm.org.
Not your average film festival
Event founder, Julie Kennedy, explains the passion behind the 5Point Film Festival: “Our vision this year –and every year – is to provide a forum where filmmakers, innovators and members of the community at large
can gather together, share their films and ideas, build relationships and come away transformed by the experience." Continues Kennedy, "It is a brief moment in time when the right people come together in the right place to inspire change and celebrate the spirit of adventure that lies in all of us."

5Point Film Festival Announces the 5Point Dream Project,
A Scholarship Award to Inspire Valley-wide High School Students to Dream Big
Deadline for applications is March 14th, 2011
February 24, 2011 (Carbondale, Colo.) — The 5Point Film Festival, an annual festival featuring a five-star roster of adventure films, special guests and programs to celebrate our common spirit, is excited to announce its first annual adventure scholarship program called the 5Point Dream Project. This unique program offers outstanding high school students (from Aspen to Rifle) the chance to explore the outdoors and explore their own personal boundaries and dreams. Two winning students who best exemplify 5Point's five guiding principles will receive a $2,000 scholarship to embark on a life-changing opportunity and follow their passions: at the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), Outdoor Adventure Film School, or on a Dream Project of their own design. Scholarship awards will be presented at the 2011 5Point Film Festival (April 28 - May 1, 2011) and will include an introspective film featuring the Dream Project recipients. Interested applicants should apply at www.5pointfilm.org. Deadline for entries is March 14th, 2011. Full eligibility requirements are also available online.
According to the 5Point Film Festival's Founder and Director, Julie Kennedy, "The Dream Project gives the valley-wide community an opportunity to recognize and support the talents of our youth. At the same time, it gives that next generation a chance to celebrate the outdoors and themselves with a meaningful opportunity that, we hope, will inspire further exploration and learning."
About the 5Point Dream Project
The Dream Project initiative originated with the 5Point Film Festival mission: to inspire adventure of all kinds, to connect generations through shared experience and respect, to engage passion with a conscience, and to educate through film. In an effort to discover and support the exceptional youth of the Roaring Fork Valley, the Dream Project has set out to connect with today's high school students in a way that promotes the 5Points and encourages alternative, adventurous lifestyles.
Applications will be evaluated on demonstration of these guiding principles (the 5Points):
RESPECT
For each other, for the environment, for the experience and for the knowledge we inherit from those who inspire and teach us.
COMMITMENT
To overcome fear and give ourselves completely to the challenge at hand while leading a vital existence and never allowing ourselves to become complacent.
HUMILITY
To assume the courage and the discipline to listen to our intuition and not our egos, always mindful of our place in the natural order.
PURPOSE
To muster the motivation and conviction necessary to pursue our highest aspiration in the face of adversity.
BALANCE
To maintain our focus and energy in life, in nature, and on the journeys we undertake while things we cannot control shift around us.
