letter from our founder

Are you ready to get your adventure on?
From the edge of your seat, the 2010 5Point Film Festival will transport you to all corners of the world, introduce you to people you’ve always wanted to meet, and reveal unforgettable stories of journeys far and near. Most importantly, the festival will bring this outdoor community together in one place, at one time, to celebrate our common spirit.
First things first...without the talent and passion of our filmmakers, there would be no 5Point Film Festival. This spring, we honor the filmmakers that light up our screen and our imaginations. For a special look behind the lens, join us in honoring Peter Mortimer, National Geographic filmmaker extraordinaire and our keynote speaker on Saturday night. And don’t miss the Colorado premiere of 180 South, the story that captures the roots of Yvon Chouinard’s vision starting Patagonia and his environmental movement within the outdoor industry.
Throughout the festival, we will open new doors for adventures of all kinds. Amee Hinkley and Renan Ozturk, both accomplished rock climbers and mountaineers, will share what inspires their journeys through their artwork. The first-ever 5Point Gallery Show of their original works will be on display at the Carbondale Council on Arts and Humanities Gallery on Main Street, Carbondale, from April 2nd – May 2nd. Please make sure you stop by.
In celebrating art of another kind, this festival marks the inaugural Big Art with the Big Heart Ice Cream Social on Saturday afternoon, a special gathering named for my late father, Art Cerre, 5Point’s biggest supporter and ice cream’s biggest fan. Please join us for some free Boulder Organic ice cream, to share stories and to laugh.
The festival magic officially begins Thursday, April 29th, with 5Point’s opening reception at the Rec Center, hosted by Phat Thai and Six89. So, help us kick things off, then make sure to settle in for the duration. You will not want to miss one film, one speaker, one Fat Belly Burger or one New Belgium brew. And lastly, THANK YOU to all of our tremendous sponsors and volunteers who really went above and beyond in a challenging year. Your profound commitment ensures the 5Point Film Festival will continue to promote passion with a conscience in our soulful Carbondale community and beyond. I look forward to seeing you there,
Julie Kennedy
